The Nature of Healing
A path is paved and, in time, crumbles when a tree grows up from a crack in the concrete. In a sustainable gardening class, I was taught to lay down stepping stones to create a new pathway. Instead of trying to cover the natural environment, work with it, like I am learning to work with my body one step at a time.
During a meditation on spirit, body communication, I received a bit more information about what is causing the tension in my body. It’s this old pattern of trying to hold in the pain. I ask my body what is the hold up? My body wants to release the discomfort, but the message I got as a child was to hide it and not talk about it. This is the conflict. So it is a matter of communicating with my body that it is OK now to let the old fear come up and be released. I am grateful to know how to ground and other spiritual techniques that are my stepping stones for healing.
There are times when I wish to be past a pain, but this expectation only seems to add to it. My body operates through time and space, so it is a matter of trusting my healing process. I’ve come to know that time is a blessing, and with courage and patience, it’s possible to let go of the past and keep going. As the expectations of what is “good” and “bad” or how I think I should be fall away, I receive the gift of being me.
I understand why Buddha is known to be laughing and Jesus liked to party. It is amusing how one may make so much progress on their path and then find themselves seemingly back at square one. Like peeling the layers of a cabbage, it’s the nature of learning that when a milestone is reached, a new one appears. Let’s celebrate where we are. It may seem like we are starting over when yet we have come so far.
